Ivor Grattan-Guinness, the historian of mathematics who set himself the task of asking “What happened in the past?” instead of taking traditional "heritage" viewpoint of the winners describing "How did we get here?” died  aged 73 on 12 December 2014. See obituary published in The Guardian by his first PhD- student Tony Crilly.

We have been deeply inspired by his method, at the first winter workshop (2011) we devoted one evening session to round table discussion on his paper „The mathematics of the past: distinguishing its history from our heritage,“ Historia Mathematica 31 (2004), pp. 163–185.
